Go Travel Namibia Part II: Squatters, Bowling and Blingin’ Ghosts
Now, ladies and gentlemen, we head west into the heart of Namibia’s nothingness. Goodbye, Fish River Canyon. Hello, Kolmanskop ghost town. Although this town might be lacking in night time entertainment, the ghosts aren’t complaining. Lame joke. After all, they struck it rich with diamonds during their time here on Earth and are now flashing their bling in the After World – I hear lady ghosts love that sort of thing. Wow, Kath, the jokes are not getting any better. Plus, that was a little bit sexist.

And so here it is – the first of a three part series of Namibian travel photos (that sounds so professional). Despite thinking about it all weekend, I still fail to find the right words to describe this country of nothingness that shocked me with its deserted beauty. What was meant to be a mini-trip to relax in the sun and read a few books became an adventure of chasing ghosts, sleeping in an old concentration camp surrounded by sharks, stumbling onto an incredible Namibian lodge and feeling the sensation of being the only human for as far as you can see. There are other places in the world where you can stop and reflect, but only in Namibia have I ever understood what stars look like when there are no lights nearby; what sounds the desert makes and the thrill of exploring sand dunes and canyons with no hint of civilization in sight. Life is full of surprises. One of the nicest it’s thrown my way lately was Vogelstrausskluft Lodge. Buried beneath the slew of letters that create the longest name I’ve ever mispronounced, there is an incredible place to stay in Namibia.
Go Travel: Moyo (the Follow Up)
Turns out there’s a whole other side to Moyo Blouberg. After naming it one of Cape Town’s best beach bars I went to check out what it’s like at night. Normally I associate Moyo with cocktails around the pool in the middle of sunny afternoons. But sitting inside, when it was dark out (and I was drinking far less cocktails) I realized Moyo has an appeal I didn’t even know about.
The Pendulum of Cities
Cities are moody. At times they are vibrant, colorful, exciting places to go travel. But then they fall off the band wagon. Suddenly they are dirty, dangerous and unpredictable. A few years later they’re back to their former glory, until the next dark patch rolls through. They exist on a pendulum that swings from extremes of wonderful to don’t-travel-there.
Cape Town Debate: Blouberg is Better than Camps Bay
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Blouberg is the most underrated part of Cape Town. Guides and travel blogs about Cape Town are always telling you to go travel to Clifton and Camps Bay. They make it out like those are the only two areas worth visiting. Not so! While, admittedly, Clifton and Camps Bay are beautiful and a lot of fun, Blouberg is better.

Go Travel: Cape Town Kite Surfing
Cape Town is a chilled out beach town. It might technically be a city, but it has the same laid back attitude of the tiny surfer towns you find up and down the coast. Maybe it’s the slow pace of town that makes the adrenaline rush of kite surfing seem all the more extreme.
The best place to kite surf is right in the heart of Blouberg, and the best place to learn is at Yo Mojo.
