Go Travel: Cape Town Wine Farms
Who likes wine? Who likes stunning scenery, friendly service and deep fried olives (really)? Alright then, here’s a tip. Go visit Vrede en Lust wine farm in Franschhoek, South Africa.
This isn’t some cheesy ad or anything. It’s just a recommendation for anyone who’s in the Cape Town area and looking for something great to do. Wine farms in general are fantastic. You might think they are snotty and expensive, but if you skip the group tour and drive yourself you’ll find they’re actually cheaper than sitting in some damp pub.
For about R30 ($4) a person you can sip on some of the world’s nicest wine all while looking out over rolling vineyards and jagged mountains. Vrede en Lust was among the best wine farms I’ve ever been to and the tasting was free. F-R-E-E. For two hours we sat and drank incredible wine, ate wonderful smelly cheese and learned a bunch of facts about wine that I’ll drop into conversation soon to try and sound sophisticated. It was an awesome – and cheap – way to spend a Sunday afternoon. So get out there and go travel!
Gorgeous pics! Have never been there before but must def make a plan for next weekend!!
Thanks, Sarah! You’ll love it!
This place looks stunning! Never been but have always wanted to, now will do it for sure!
You won’t be disappointed!
I have never heard of this wine farm. Where is it?
Hi Charlie, the Vrede en Lust wine farm is about 40 minutes outside of Cape Town (GPS coordinates: 33 degrees 50’14.96″S 18 degrees 57’11.62″E). You can download a map and contact the wine farm directly at http://www.vnl.co.za/utility-links/contact-us/. Hope this helps!
Do you know where I can buy their wine? Thanks!!
Hi Amanda, Thanks for the comment. You can order wine directly from the Vrede en Lust website at http://www.vnl.co.za/products-page/specials/. If you’re really into your wine you might want to consider joining their wine club as well. More info at http://www.vnl.co.za/wineclub/.
This is great. I’ve been trying to decide which wine farms to visit when I come to RSA next month. This one is at the top of my list now. So excited to see South Africa.
I’m excited for you, too! I hope you have a wonderful time in South Africa. If you’d like some more ideas of things to do while you’re in Cape Town please feel free to contact me!
I absolutely adore visiting wine farms. They are so close to the city yet make you feel like you’re in the middle of another time period. We are truly blessed here in Cape Town to have so many wonderful ones to choose from. Vrede en Lust is also one of my favourites. I loved reading about your time there and seeing your stunning photos.
Thanks for the comment, Lisa. I’m glad to hear you appreciate (and take advantage of) the incredible wine farms the Cape Town area has to offer!
Sounds wonderful! I’d like to raise a glass there with you sometime. Cheers!
It would be my pleasure, Marcy! Please contact me next time you’re in Cape Town!
